I propose a thread to give help to our fellow deal lovers.
At Goodwill on University and Fairview.
1 neat loveseat.
Cushy and pretty comfy.
Well worn.
$79 I think.

There's a Goodwill at University and Fairview?

Not just a Goodwill, a HUGE Goodwill.
I was just there on Saturday and did not see that loveseat. Weird.

i usually see urethra_franklin hanging out with a really sleezy old dude

i don't think that couch would be so great if you were gonna use it for sitting on or looking at. if you were gonna use it for something else, that would be fine.
hahaha
I was going to say the same thing but was afraid I would hurt the couch's feelings.
Why the couch hate, Rayna? Did it taunt your forebears?
rayna,
you naughty, ............................naughty,.......... naughty girl.....
am i bullying the couch? sarry.
I, too, hate that "couch".
That looks like a good couch for a foresome. Looking at it though I would guess that has already played out.
Interesting design. That couch looks like it has some history.
And probably some biology.
it is definitely interesting and probs a good deal for the goth who would love like a coffin.

For all you new parents. DwellStudio for Target crib, brand new, $100. At Salvation Army downtown Minneapolis. 10th ave and 4th st N. Costs $300 at Target. Get there soon.
Again, Salvation Army downtown. Brand new Canon Eos Rebel XS 10 MP dSLR. $250. These things are $475 on Amazon. Wish I could afford it.
That Salvation Army gets a ton of stuff that are samples of merchant used in Target photo shoots. I may have handled some of that stuff there at some point!
I bought a designer sample coat there for twenty bucks once. Pretty sure that coat retailed in stores for over $80. I love that Target Salvation Army basement, and now it actually has dressing rooms!
I love that place. The downstairs showroom has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY larger and more packed with stuff. Some very good prices, some not-so-good. Bad things about men's clothes there is sample size is medium, and that means I'm just a tiny bit too big. Not that I'm always looking for great Mossimo gear...
That Cannon is almost in flip-on-Craigslist price territory.

at the Salvation Army on 38th and Nicollet: three size large short sleeved white lace leotards from the 90s with the tags still on, $2 each.
I almost bought all three of them so I could dye them each a different color but I changed my mind at the last minute and went for the giant shawl. Someone snatch them up!

If anyone's looking for a lot of Johnny Mathis or Carpenters records, I know of a bajillion places with lots of scratched copies.

please keep your eyes open for a copy of Billy Joel's 'glass houses'.
don't care what condition it's in.
can't find a copy anywhere.

Truly a collectible.
ideally, i'm looking for the ultra-rare black vinyl version.
Its funny how you keep running into copies of the exact same records at thrift stores everywhere. Even in other states. For instance was Don Ho's "Tiny Bubbles" one of the best selling LP's of all time? Because I could probably put new vinyl siding on my house with just copies of that record. Ditto Herb Alpert.
Huge seller + zero longevity = thrift store gold
what about the one with the scary painted kid looking into the golden orb
i always want to buy it so that i wont be scared of it anymore
but i'm too scared so

I found 6 t-shirts from the Himmelbaum family reunion at a Goodwill in New York. They were stylishly designed to parody the "Got Milk" ad campaign from the late 90's. Vintage.

This is not a joke, so I'm going to use all caps to get your attention because you're probably all stoned right now.
I NEED A MICROWAVE. If you spot one at a thrift store, or have one that you don't use, be so kind as to tell me.
Thanks,
A lazy person who hates to cook.
I have one in my closet that I don't use.
everybody knows people who are stoned assiduously avoid anything in caps because it usually means you need to actually pay attention to something that's serious or urgent
Also, people who are stoned will not give you their microwaves, because they wouldn't have a way to cook their hot pockets anymore.
Not all stoners eat hot pockets. Some of them eat them cold, especially if they don't have a microwave.

There is a real nice like new banana republic men's extra fine merino v neck sweater (navy, size medium) at the Egan Goodwill. I would have bought it but I got one almost exactly like it for Xmas. If any of you stylish dudes want to make it over there, I left it hiding inside the big whirlpool toy oven that is sitting in the furniture section.

hahaha man that'd be perfect for me. but don't wanna driven to eagan

Also I already own like 20 sweaters

that looks boxy as hell, yo
hahaha, I bought a J. Crew sweater there last night that wasn't cashmere, but nice anyway. It is almost the exact same color/argyle pattern and I was asking my wife "are you SURE this doesn't make me look like a stupid douche?"
Guess I got the answer by proxy from you two pinnacles of men's fashion.
Oh, except not v-neck.
V-neck sweaters are the devil's shrouds.
Silk cashmere though, that's nice. I've only discovered the luxuries of cashmere sweaters in the last year
Which..... seems..... awesome?

What's wrong with v-neck?
V-necks don't look good on me.

acceptable answer

One needs a V-Neck to let the neck beard breathe.
I've noticed decent sweaters have started popping up in my thrift store visits more recently now that they've moved back to more non-featured racks. Pro tip.
Plus, what undershirt are you gonna wear with a v-neck? A v-neck crew t? Any t-shirt with a regular neck looks stupid poking out of the top of the v-neck.
Collared shirt. I don't really wear tshirts very often
Whoa, Preppie.
<img src=anypictureofmarkpaulgosselaarwearingav-neckoveracollaredshirt.jpeg>
Oh, and I'm ashamed to admit I didn't think of that. Now I'm sad about the number of nice v-necks I've let sit on the racks. I coulda looked so nice! Dressing up is hard.
i usually wear a grey t-shirt with my two v-necks. my office is too hot to wear a collared shirt underneath

I bought a v-neck sweater at Uniqlo last weekend. I've avoided them my entire life, but I'm going to try one out and see how I like it. Crew neck sweaterz 4 lyf! I think you have to wear a collared shirt under it though, right? T-shirt seems kinda weird.
Wear nothing underneath the v-neck.
Man I love Uniqlo.

For the record, Zom is the only who brought up sweater vests

I only brought it up because you sweaterists try to hide your love for the sleeveless sweater.
I'm guessing it's long gone but there was an awesome houndstooth overcoat made of mostly alpaca at the Valu Thrift in Sun Ray for $15. I would have bought it if it wasn't size XL.

i have 2 green sweaters that i wear while i teach. i feel like im wearing a lie :(

There's an older gentleman at my job who I like very much, and he pulls off a sweater vest pretty well.
I'm glad he's pulling it off, they are hideous.
No shit. He is teh gay (i think?), too, so it's very forgivable LOL.

I bought a few sweater vests from the thrift store. I like them. I also like argyle sweaters on men, but Mannyapolis doesn't wear sweaters hardly ever.
Fuck a v-neck on men with nothing underneath. T-shirt, sweater, doesn't matter. Makes dudes' necks look weird. For instance:

I was a crew sweater diehard for most of my life but just came around this year. Now I have gotten rid of most of my crews.
I do have one fashion beef I'm pretty sure we can all get behind - coats that have sweater collars sewn into them. I have come across numerous examples at Goodwills this winter. Sometimes its a nice looking coat, hiddeously made unwearable by someone's idea that "hey, people want to look like they are wearing sweaters without actually wearing them"
I personally like all my layers sewn together with all the duplicate parts removed

adam, you would probably feel a bit more breeze if you wore something like that in the summer instead of the whole sweater I know you are going to wear

it's weird that the worst part of that isn't that it's a turtleneck

I hate argyle.

Ended up by the NE Unique on my lunch break and got:
Neil Young - 'On the Beach'
Neil Young - 'Harvest' (my old copy was busted as fuuuuuuck)
Bob Dylan/The Band - 'Before the Flood'
Also, I had an all-day thrift store fest in Burnsville yesterday and found a pair of white jeans, a Loverboy shirt that doesn't fit me and a bunch of awesome records that I don't remember.

I'm going to regret not getting this but I thought I'd pass this on. Unique is having a half off everything sale today and the northeast location has a Teisco guitar with a gold foil pickup for $399. So it's basically $200. Someone should come and buy it.

Anything else cool there? I'm debating whether I should go there or New Hope.

I got an awesome vintage (1974) Kenwood Receiver at the St. Paul Unique today. It's only 40 Watts, but it makes up for it in sound quality. Really full-sounding bass and crisp high end. Spotted at the Roseville Goodwill: A lady having a full-on argument with herself supplying both sides of the conversation. Every other word seemed to be "THAT" which was emphasized louder than any other word - i.e. "you didn't tell me THAT," "put THAT away," "THAT is what I am saying."

Pair of Baby Advent II speakers at Hopkins GW if anyone is looking for bookshelf speakers. Didn't check them out since i have a pair already
E's Emporium rules!
Check it out this weeken if you are into vintage/ thrift shopping. The store is really unique (in an old house!), and the stuff is really cool, and priced very reasonably.
adam and unoriginal, I'm looking at you.
And swags but I assume she's busy moving this weekend.
They're not open every weekend but they are this coming weekend. Stop on by- the gal who owns/ operates it is really awesome.
oh cool never heard of it. do they ever tell you where it is? webpage leaves a lot to be desired in the info departmnt
Yeah for sure. Don't let that be a reflection of the shop itself... It's so wonderful!
39th and Minnehaha. East side of the street.

On Minnehaha.

Men's medium Pendleton 100 wool shirt at Goodwill - Roseville (old vers). Kind of an ugly plaid but some people still go crazy for the brand. Some tiny holes but in general in very good shape. Probably could have sold it on ebay or something but didn't want the bother.
In other news I have noticed lately a number of Zara items at various different Goodwill stores. Seems bizarre to me because I don't think there are any Zara's anywhere in the midwest (?). Anyway, picked up a super nice sportcoat the other day.
Otherwise its been really sparse lately. Clothing, furniture, electronics - I just haven't been having many scores
I think there's a Zara in Chicago.
Pendletons are generally worthless unless they're the vintage USA made ones in good condition.
correction: there is definitely a huge Zara downtown Chicago, I walked past it a month ago
Said that it was made in Portland. No idea on whether its vintage. Also don't really care
Made in Portland would def be vintage. Late 80s or so changed to made in Mexico or something like that.
why the fuck do i know this stuff?
Pro tip: small vintage made in the USA flannels can be sold on ebay to Japan for a reasonable profit
Picked up a really nice early 70's paperback Lord of the Rings trilogy once.
I think the used panties market in Japan is pretty healthy as well
(depending on your definition of "healthy")
I think that's on a different ebay?
I'll bet there is an Xbay out there but I am not gonna check at work
i'm wearing Zara pants now!
Zara and Zubaz aren't the same thing.

I saw a kind of cool Russian poster at the new Roseville today as well - it had Cyrillic lettering and was some sort of adage about the generosity of men or some such thing.
Still, didn't buy. I have no room to hang half the art I already have
New Roseville location of what?
G'will
told you guys it was a pretty good location
Wait, the Plimsouls cassette I bought there died during "A Million Miles Away". That place sucks.
I still am not really sold yet but i am giving it time. A good Goodwill needs time to develop
"Not sure what to do with them, yet. "
Don't you usually like to "flip stuff"? ;)
are those prints Jay Ryan jawns?
huh.
similar style, both chicago-centric.
for what it's worth the Downtown Salvation Army has a bunch of cheap camping stuff, tents, canopies, chairs, etc.
I just bought a knock off Coleman 2 burner stove for $12.
SUPER cheap quality Panasonic turntable at New Roseville Goodwill - 7 bucks. I wouldn't receommend it to anyone unless you are really flat out looking for the absolute cheapest turntable you can buy. Has stylus/cartridge
My buddy got two Jon Spencer Blues Explosion records for $0.50 each at the Goodwill on Robert Street ... also got 40 Oz. to Freedom PICTURE DISC for $0.50
RIP LOU DOG
Is that...West St. Paul? I haven't been there in a spell. Never cared much for that one.
Yep, West St. Paul.
One of my coworkers found a Jon Spencer LP at another Goodwill recently. Someone must be dropping their collection all around town.
Jonny Spencer Appleseed
Funny. I was thinking about going to Robert st. today. Guess I'll be skipping it, now.
I found a pair of $5 Ferragamos in my size at the dt Sal Army today. They were priced at $10 and half off.
There was another pair of beige and white two-toned loafers there too. Ferragamo, size 10. I think they were lady size 10, $10, great shape. Classic, preppy, Italian. Too big for me. Snatch em up if you want nice shoes, or to flip nice shoes in the internet!
A ton of 12" rap singles at goodwill on lyndale & american blvd if anyone is into that. Might be all junk but I did grab grindin by clipse

I saw a bunch at Unique in Crystal a couple days ago!

Woah, there's a Goodwill in that old office building? Cray.
It looks purpose-built. Maybe they tore it down? There are a bunch of office buildings around there.
That's nuts, I'll have to check it out next time I'm out that way to visit my parents.
The Re-Use Center at the U of M has those desks cheap too
if you're afraid of missing out.
The U is a great resource.
I'd be all over that desk if I wasn't leaving for Costa Rica early Monday.
I have that same desk! Sitting at it right now.
If anybody's a size 39 or 40, there are some very nice suit jackets at the University G'will. DKNY, Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, even an Armani.
damn i'm a 40 long
40 long was represented in the pack. Go check 'em out.

Saw some nice hagar pleated khakis at the midway goodwill. those things don't need to be ironed.
niiiiiiice
damn i gotta go check this shit out, huh
uni is same as midway, right?
I don't know, the one off University and Fairview in St. Paul.
But hurry, because pants like that don't hang around for long.
Does they say "Hagar" because those might be Haggar knockoffs. Don't be fooled into buying a sub-quality pleated khaki
oh man watch out for bootleg Haggars.
Damn, fooled again. I was fucked one time when a guy sold me a Rolecks watch.
Hey Turlough, you might be interested in some of these authentic, top quality Bugel Boy jeans I have for sale
Nope. Alredy got a closet fulla Bagel Bay Jorts.
Is that like an Armani for Christians?
"Do you LOVE Armani style but hate those sweaty, sinful Italian gigolos? Boy do I have the brand for YOU"

watching this even without sound is mind blowing
I got an Armani jacket. It is weird... 3 button, but the buttons start low and it is super long. Prolly just going to try and sell it. I think it's made for someone about 4 inches taller than me who weighs about the same.
most jackets/suits by those makers that show up at thrift stores are pretty dated looking. like 90s dated.
you will probably not be able to sell it for more than $10
$10 would be okay cuz I bought it for 9.
PROFIT
that's if it sells somewhere. good luck.
Without sound is the way to go for that one. Incredibly satisfying in every way.
I don't know, it was still incredible with sound. The jump and roll at 1:25 was pretty killer
What a hideous christian song. Yuck.
back-2-back that video with that amazing Michael Anthony live bass solo video for a Real Treat.
that song was #1 last week on billboard. ive successfully avoided it but keep reading about it and hearing about it "one love" jah
Picked up a Marantz 4270 receiver today for $7. Kinda dirty, but the functions look like they work. Almost all lights, too.
Saw a slamhammer road case today, too. Probably 14x16x20 inside. Didn't buy it because it was $50. Tell me if you're interested.
HEY:
Vintage Estey cottage Organ. Serial number indicates it's from between 1872 and 1874. Sounds BEAUTIFUL. DEEP bass tones. $149.99 at Goodwill in Shakopee, which is at least half its value. This should be the organ for Thee Quaking Bogge.
Sounds awesome.
It's not in impeccable condition, but it does work. I was able to produce some very pretty legato drones. Lots of sonic variations by pulling the levers.
I guess drones are, by nature, legato.
Your butt is legato
Needs more candelabra
Of course, being from the 1870s means it has real ivory keys!
The sounds my butt produces are some nice legato drones.
I'd buy that thing right now if I had room in my house for it.
I want that on my porch!
There's a pair of leather pants out here in Plymouth. Men's size 34. Forgot to check the price. Look pretty unworn.
Buttless or butted?
Pants implies buttedness. I'm sure danjohnson would be the first to come here to post that chaps always implies assless.
As a non sequitur I'll point out that my phone autocorrects "danjohnson" to "fanboy son."
There was a cool Rival Food Slicer at Valu Thrift today. Manual crank. I think it was like $70 or something.
I was kinda buzzing on some DayQuil.
Thank god because that place is effing crazy on a Saturday afternoon.
There was an easter bunny lady giving out lunch breaks in the front of the store.
I saw Little Man and also meatpit.
I think they had 2 automatic food slicers at valu thrift a couple months ago. They were less than 20 dollars. I didn't get one cause I wasn't sure when I'd use it
Not a thrift store, but HPB in Roseville has some pretty good stuff in the vinyl bins. Swans, Pelt, Jack Rose + Black Twig Pickers, NVH Chasny, Yellow Swans, etc. Circa Discogs prices, but no shipping charge.
Got a Hammond M3 today at work. That's neat.
150$
fucking Savers
hahahahaha
My friend shot that and reported it to their main office. He's a reseller, so he's in those shops everyday and, while it makes sense that they'd want to try to cash in on some of that resale action, it's still fucked. It's a thrift store that's selling freely-donated items for charity to people that can't afford a $100 fetish item.
how much would he have charged
Based on what I've seen him charge for other stuff, probably about $25.
I found a Pendleton flannel for $6 at Arc in St. Paul the other day.
yeah the most desirable of Pendleton shirts sell for about $25-30 in good condition.
I see Pendletons at Goodwill pretty regularly. Sometimes I think I should just pick them up to resell but I am not sure how much they go for
the ones with the loop button at the top on the collar from the ~60s are the desirable ones and as I just posted, $20-30.
Dang, when I lived in OR., Pendletons were abundant and cheap at thrift stores.
Probably not anymore.
most you find have moth holes as well
Pendletons are scratchy.
also true
Looks like something Ed Gein would've worn while sewing nipples together.
Bemidji Woolen Mills, awesome.
Pendletons are cheap and easy to come by in good condition in nearly every Iron Range thrift store.
even Ed had to stay warm
i have a hat from Bemidji Woolen Mills
God, the last time I went to Savers they were selling non-vintage, used cast iron skillets for a few dollars more than they'd be new.
Fuck that place in the face so hard.
This past winter Ms. Zom picked up three Paul Revere copper skillets in excellent condition all for $30 at Savers. They typically sell for more than $50 each. I can hardly cook on anything else anymore. The heat transfer with copper is almost instantaneous.
Damn, I guess they do have deals still. That's a huge score.
Yeah we really lucked out. Most times I'm there it's junk.
Records are even sometimes cheaper at a record store.
I don't grudge savers or anything. Runnin game yo.

I don't know anything about the SPACE brand, and can't find anything, either. I'd say it's probably from the mid-'70s. It's in good shape, and plays okay.
Oh, and I should mention that's it's SMALL.

Hickey Freeman Vicuna overcoat. It happened to be 25% off so I paid $7.50

As of June, 2007, prices for vicuña fabrics can range from $1,800 to $3,000 per yard

So... does it feel nice?

I'll give you $17.50.
