I love him.. even some of his Christian period stuff..
this is really something you should have opened with early on in your messageboard career when more people would argue with you.
I can't stand anyone who plays a guitar!
BORING.
Sorry. I thought you were talking about Rob Dylan.
HAHAHA.
sseth, yrs is the incorrect opinion.
No Direction Home is on TPT2 RIGHT MEOW.
don't you just love people who say, "bob dylan is a musical genius! he is so deep."
Do they say that?
I thought they said, "John Lennon was a beautiful man."
i'm with sseth. meager talents astutely marketed? at least kiss had facepaint.
I'm on board with this.
hi

too much pot pie. FULL

This thread makes a lot of good points all around. Good work everyone.
I love Bob Dylan...
I think he's good. Like, really really good.
gay
His Christmas album was poopy.
he's old!
It's funny to come back to this thread but I was just talking with Adam tonight about how boring these "controversial" posts have gotten. sseth, you're a very very uninteresting version of a million posters over the years. I'm sorry you don't have anything better to do with your time.
I love the dude, but I think he's the most Overrated Artist Of All Time. So goddamn what if went electric?
Buddy fucking Holly still died in a plane crash.
What does everyone think of The Current?
i kinda felt this way for a while and when I saw one of those docs on bob dylan, the one where joan baez basically says he was a stoned retard who pulled a fast one on everyone, it really confirmed my feelings on the man.
I REALLY wanted to like him for years cause my dad always said "he wrote pretty good songs but he's a terrible musician." plus, my grandparents live two blocks from where he grew up. so.....
and then Joan Baez proceeded on basing her entire career supporting him, covering his songs and recording complete albums of his material. Seriously, I can't think of another artist that has devoted as much of their own career performing another artist's songs.
weird al.
tom, everyone must move over to my style of posting. DADA3
COMPLETELY NONSENSE
Joan Jett.
albert, no. It's kinda played out. It's the chillwave of the mrmb.
Yeah, Weird Al would be a good comparison because Joan Baez is essentially a Bob Dylan cover band, but it's not like Weird Al played the same shows, clubs and existed in the same scene as the artists he covered. It's like if 80% of Daughters of the Sun's songs and albums were just Vampire Hands songs.
lol let me git that bubble butt!
my life is played out.
:( just post a funny picture and everything will be better.
30+ replies without heartfullofnapalm throwing down the gauntlet?
What gives?
Bob Dylan does suck.
He had a lot of really crappy songs. like, totally unlistenable.
I actually thought about starting this thread, once. even though I don't completely feel this way, being that he is a legend and all.
Why should anyone care about "cashing in" or "honest meaning"? I enjoy listening to the songs either way.
he's the patron saint of potshot tastes
What's the point of this? Are we being funny and witty?
sseth i think it's really neat how you have all these thoughts and opinions about stuff, keep at it 'lil buddy :)
and, with all these groundbreaking music discussions you've been posting lately, i'm REALLY looking forward to your controversial Beatles vs. Stones thread of 2012
Some time in the future at a state university there will be a class entitled "Understanding and Decoding the Challops in Early 21st Century Internet Communications" and this thread will be on the mid-term
i honestly do not think that there is a scrap of honest meaning in any of his work EVER of all time, i believe he thinks he has pulled the wool over the eyes of all the shitheads...
Compared to the people he shared "scenes" with in the early days, earnest folksingers and such, obfuscating "honest meaning" in his work and not being direct was maybe the point.

i do really like bob dylan...i dont beat off to him or anything...but i have almost all of his records on vinyl.

yeah you think you are bummed because i got the pizza hut 4 for all....but you could be in the kitchen cooking frozen pizza with the tombstone blues.
i wish this guy had had more fun with this record...but it is pretty much playing dylan songs with in very very tame and very very boring cramps style
oh yeah i think its mrr columnist/boris the sprinklers rev. norb.
that dude is still making music? Yikes. That shit was stale well over 10 years ago.
Novelty records generally become stale before the freshness seal is ever cracked.
that record is like 5 years old or something...maybe older
its not very good....
just thought it was worth posting in a dylan hater thread
we need a thread about what it means to be punk. and who here is a punk and who is a poseur. it's been almost a year since we have painstakingly rehashed that inane argument. i miss feeling completely useless.

no mohawk no punk
know mohawk know punk

what do you guys think about pearl jam
Pearl Jam is fantastic for karaoke.
True. One of my favorite karaoke memories is watching a friend bomb on a Pearl Jam song.
I think it would be scarier if they nailed the Pearl Jam song
Tevs, cowboy. If I could find a karaoke that had "The Fixer" I would definitely nail it.
sseth, for my own morbid curiosity...is there any musician/band dead or alive that you actually like? I mean...ALL the way like...not scrutinizing every little hook/note/lyric/loop/whatever the fuck you are listening to..
Is there something you put on the record player/CD player/tape player/iPod that you can just sit down and listen to, happily? Makes you smile? Can do chores to? Brings a sense of wonder to your life? Would bring to a deserted island with you? Yeah, I know I'm cheesing out a little, but man, you are so serious about what sucks...granted, I haven't caught up on all the sseth reviews yet...and you make me laugh for sure...
And please know, this is not an attack...I really want to know.
HAHA, this is the thread where sethh finally got under tom's skin, I love it.
this is the thread where ssseth gets adorable
Great thread, super interesting and unheard of opinions that have never been examined on this board before.
It's fresh. It's witty. It's really clever.
PS - I don't care for Dylan, but I'd buy all his albums if it meant we could get an ignore feature on this board.
funny thing is, I used to HATE Bob Dylan. I probably would have started this thread in 1990. Funnier thing, I used to like noise. I didn't perform it or love it, but I bought "noise" albums.
Now, I stopped listening to noise a few years ago, I stopped hating Dylan. Coincedence? Probly not.
Then, I had satellite radio and listened to "The Bob Dylan Themetime Radio Show". It was awesome. Here's a link to the poor html thread I posted about it. So now, I really do like Bob Dylan the guy over Bob Dylan the singer/songwriter. On the radio show you realize his love of music and deep knowledge of all kinds of pre-1980's music, all the way back to pre-recorded music.
His albums? I can take them or leave them. But I'll defend Bob. He definitely does not suck.
ruxpin, he's not under my skin at all. If he was, I'd throw him off the board. He's just boring and starts dumb threads and really doesn't contribute anything worth while. He's one of those people that just wants attention but doesn't really have anything worthwhile to contribute. At least some of the other attention starved folks have something worthwhile to contribute.
sseth, happen to know and mind disclosing if that kid's name was Eric?
I dunno. Sseth's a fucking prick who hates Dylan, hates Chooglin' and thinks we're a ska band who's never heard of the Rolling Stones, likes noise, and never has a nice thing to say about anyone.
That said, I like having him around. I think he's entertaining and sometimes even perceptive despite his prickishness. He's got virtual balls, anyway.
Dylan WAS a dick to Donovan, by the way. He comes off as a total prick throughout that documentary, in fact.
lol, dick donovan
let's start a Donovan sucks thread. Cuz Donovan was cheesy as hell.
Comments sections all over the internet are populated by people with "virtual balls."
Hahaha! Didn't even think of that. I have a picture somewhere of Dick Donovan sitting on the kitchen counter of my house with his usual hat on and shaking my friend's hand as Dick says, "Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Dick Donovan".
I have the movie.
Donovan has some absolutely great songs, but he also has some of the worst songs ever written. I mean mind-numbingly, rage-inducing awful.
Yeah, I know it's easy to be an ass on the internet, but I kinda like sseth's particular brand of prickishness. Sometimes.
sseth is good when he puts thought and effort into it, but when he gets lazy we get crap like this thread. No one cares who you hate, people.
I miss milfshake.
"At least some of the other attention starved folks have something worthwhile to contribute. "
---LOOL, I'll take this compliment! ;)
sseth's insult-filled rants pale in comparison to some of the temper tantrums I've seen him throw in real-life (well one time speciically)....so i don't think his posting here is an example of fake internet balls. i personally like sseth, think he is intelligent, and sometimes an arrogant ass but who on here isnt?
Me. I'm totally not arrogant. I have a humility previously borne only by Jesus Christ.
tom ALLZ I'm saying is, and everyone should really do this, it's HILARIOUS-
search the word "sucks" on here. It's amazing.
Yeah, me too. I'm too amazing to be arrogant.
At least some of the other attention starved folks have something worthwhile to contribute.
you go girl. tell it like it is. speak truth to power.
Surprise!
ur a lol nerd
Donovan is about one thousand times cooler than Dylan to me.
I thought you hated hippies.
Hating Donovan is simply not possible for me.
I also think of him more as more of a "Fop."

I see your one thousand and raise you a million.

The ol' "He's an asshole in real life too" defense always makes me lol.

"I'll show you who's boss, stupid guitar."

"Fascists killed this machine"

It's the fact that the acoustic guitar sold out to the co-opted, merchandisable idea of peace, in sticker form that seth objected to.
sseth i was referring to the machete incident at the old camelot space
yeah that night was interesting to say the least

i still laugh a little just remembering

this is cool, usually you'd have to go to a freshman dorm to find this kinda insightful music discussion, god bless technology

Bob Dylan has murdered at least 8 people since 1965. Don't you think some other talentless hack would have cornered some of his money pile if he hadn't ruthlessly butchered them? I can't name names here, but go look up the life expectancy sometime of people who get their face on the cover of Rolling Stone with the subtext "The next Bob Dylan?" cuz there's only one answer to that question: nope, followed by brutal throat slashing and poor guitarmanship.
A stoned retard who put one over on us? If only it were that simple.
it's all part of his charm.
if bob dylan is really murdering the people that rolling stone calls "the next bob dylan", then I love him even more.
in fact, I can't think of any song writer so cool that bob dylan murdering them wouldn't be cooler.
