zom-zom, I have a floor question for you. Assuming you have wood floors in your bedroom, do you also have wood floors in the room/foyer/hallway/whatever that adjoins your bedroom? And if so, is there now an unslightly gap/line between recently refinished bedroom floor, and the differently worn exterior room/foyer/hallway/whatever?
We'd like to refinish all our first floor rooms, but worry we'd have to do the living room/dining room/kitchen/roommate's room in one fell swoop, in order to avoid this. But what do we know, maybe this isn't the case.

Yes, maple flooring on the second floor. Due to time constraints and money stuff I could only afford to do the bedroom right now, so yes, there is not only a an unsightly gap, there is an extended unsightly area where I spilled some of the polyurethane in the hallway outside of the bedroom.
Of course it's best to do the entire floor at once, but I couldn't, so I'll have to try my best to make an even transition between the bedroom and the rest once I finish it. At least there will only be the transition between the bedroom to worry about, when I finish the floor I'll do the rest all at once.
My floors were in horrible shape. Gouged, rough, and the sanded area looks white compared to the rest of the old unfinished floor.
I was told $600 to do the bedroom, doing it myself I spent about $150 on rental and supplies. Shitty work, but at least the bedroom looks great now.

Our floors are terrible. I think someone did a crappy job of refinishing them in the first place, before I moved in. Now the poly on the top is kind of peeling off in the spots where the dog's had Scooby-Doo legs one too many times. It looks awful. I kind of want to figure out a way to distress the floor, so the awfulness of it and the scratch marks is at least consistent.

The first sanding, using the really coarse grit, took off all the scratches, gouges and blackness. It grinds the wood down.
I will admit, there are some gouge marks and the floor looks far from perfect, but it's a 1903 house and it looks better than it has since we moved in, and as good as many I've seen. I'm not too picky, it's a floor and the bed covers up most of it.
These floors were worn out when they carpeted over them, probably in the '60s and '70s. The kitchen had tile with carpeting over it. Horrible to remove.
I thought about making it all distressed, but for the work involved it was easier to just refinish. I also thought about light sanding and painting the floor, which can look pretty nice too.
