Tokyo blissout psych masters Suishou no Fune (Holy Mountain Records) are coming back to Minneapolis for the first time in a few years, and we are very pleased to be able to play with our good friends once again! Their last appearance here was at the Heliotrope 5 festival at the Ritz Theatre in 2009 (lower photo), and it will be wonderful to see them again.

SUISHOU NO FUNE

THUNDERBOLT PAGODA

TRANSITIONAL SPECIES

Two more Midwest dates with Thunderbolt Pagoda as well. They are touring as a four-piece this time, and will surely blow minds and eardrums with their high-volume blissfulness.

I suppose so.
In the meantime, enjoy these presskit materials:

Suishou No Fune was formed by Pirako Kurenai and Kageo in Tokyo, July,1999.
Basics of their music are formed by twin guitars in duo.
Twin guitar players are influenced and create songs.

Kageo's guitar work establishes the basics of a song in the case of most.
Pirako plays a lead guitar mainly, and often receive inspiration from free style playing, and sing a song adlib.
The artistic sound is the psychedelic Rock that twin guitars work that is full of sensitivity by the freedom that is not bound by stereotype.

Suishou No Fune usually make much songs by adlib, sing the song which make the best use of the Japanese poetic beauty.
The songs of "Spirit, Light and Darkness, Soul, Love and Hatred, Shamanistic, Life and Death" will touch your heartstrings.
You will enjoy the sound of Japanese verse and their psychedelic world, if you don't understand Japanese.
Suishou No Fune is magic music.

That's the spirit. Plus this time they are more of a "band" in the live sense, what with the quartet format and all.

Suishou No Fune
Your Tears
PSF CD

Suishou No Fune aren't quite first wave Japanese psych, but they're vets nonetheless: they started in the late 1990s, and Your Tears, according to Discogs, is their 14th album.
They don't sound as blues-based, or as swinging, as Old School Jap Psych (Speed, Glue & Shinki/Flower Travellin' Band/etc).
Their name means "crystal ship" in Japanese, which captures something of what they're about - sculpture and grace, ecstatic beauty over bruising power, blue heat ovet red.
The songs each follow a similar pattern. There's a quieter bit that builds: washes of guitar, tentative drums, chiming lead-work, breathy, magic
vocals; then there's a loud bit: the same chord sequence but crunched out in distorted power chords, and some of the most ecstatic guitar-soloing this side of The Baby Grandmothers.
Suishou No Fune's music is formulaic, but that shouldn't matter: it's just another symptom of their loved-up ingenuousness.

Duluth is the 12th, Milwaukee is the 13th. They are flying in from the west coast before and heading to NYC from Milwaukee. I feel really great that they have been so welcomed here in the past that they will fly through here and not over it.

Great time indeed. Excellent music all around. My first time here despite a few other shows I thought about going to. Glad I made it to this one. Huge thanks to Sho for his translation help at the end of the night. Will try to get a Suishou no Fune track posted soon.

I really wish I could be in Duluth tonight but I'm slammed at work and can't take tomorrow off. Damn.

Looking forward to Duluth tonight. Last night was lovely but SO hot and stuffy inside (while so gorgeous outside). I only took photos of Thunderbolt Pagoda as I made the mistake of sitting down for Suishou no Fune and was unable to get up again. Lucky for me the sound was better on the side where I was sitting.

I like this photo because it looks like blue alien goo is about to creep into Savage Clone's ear canal:

They sounded beautiful, awkward tuning glitch aside. Thanks to all who made it out, lovely to see you. Where were all these local self-proclaimed fans of psychedelic/dreamy sounds last night?

Have to take the band to Target this morning; tomorrow they get to see rural Wisconsin. Hey, they wanted to tour America. . .
