it's not too early. just sayin'.

I second the motion that it is not too early. I assume this will take place on one of the free stages?

Nice! I saw her at the Dakota a few years back and she was great!

Damn!

Holy shit, I love this lady. I'm in!

can anyone say "overrated?" i've seen probably 7 (guest-listed) shows at the dakota, so for sure i think she's good, but she hasn't really made a great album in over 30 years, and having her play at the state fair is a bit of a 'meh' for me. she ain't no candi staton...

ha she's referring to the Assassinators an old school NY street gang in the first line....she's wearing all red and an A hat maybe red is their color now or they are blood affiliates...
i just learned about the Assassinators the other day on the site i linked...which put a new wrinkle on the classic Rakim line "...an Assassinator if the people ain't steppin'"....which I had always assumed was just a goofier way of Ra saying "assassin" or he needed it so it would have more syllables.

everyone going tom night?
amazing!
loved her ballads
yeah, she and Jimmy Scott are pretty much the best living balladeers alive. She can embroider a melody into a beautiful afghan like nobody's business.
did anyone attend this yesterday?
me & roar and hot legs were there on sunday nite. I thought it was half brilliant and half kinda cheesy, but the brilliant parts were so good that I could forgive the fromage. her stage banter was great, too.
loved the george harrison & george jones covers best

We were there last night, and I would agree with that assessment. I didn't really well. Beautiful night for it, though.
& of course the t-shirt she was selling that read "Bettye Lavette: She Will Fuck You Up" was great as well
CRAP, where did the rest of that sentence go?
I didn't really like her band that well.
the band was strictly Famous Dave's-league, but they knew how to lay back on the slow songs.

Since there isn't a "Miscellaneous Shit from the MN State Fair" thread, I'll use this one to say that, somehow, some way, I am going to live in a Luminarium. We must have been in there about 40 minutes, and could have stayed longer.
Also, I don't know who Wiz Kafoiuqoiuywertfvc is, but he sure had a lot of kids wearing his t-shirts. Sounded like a huge crowd as we were walking past.
what was it like inside the luminarium? any photos to share?
I loved the way it looked from the outside

Extremely womb-like, down to the ambient music. I got a bit of a Roger Dean vibe, but I didn't have a chance to ask the Architects of Air guy if that was indeed an influence on their work. The patterns of colored light were beautiful.
I took a ton of pictures with my phone, which I can try to post later; I don't know if they'll do it justice.
The guy did tell us that people regularly fall asleep in there, which I can easily see.
