I was actually sore the next day after I saw them circa Orange.

Kind of lost track of them, though; what are the good records since then?
the Classical
6/25/12 9:49 AM
Now I Got Worry the next one after Orange is great Acme blows, Plastic Fang and Damage are solid but kind of "pro" in weird way that doesn't really suit their style.

I'm curious to hear the new one. I haven't seen them in yrs (since the late 90s maybe?) but I would bet money they are still great live.

Nice, I too was a big fan through Orange but never saw them. I heard a recording of them covering My War at a recent European show and it was awesome.

I saw them at Lounge Ax in 1994 and it definitely remains in my top 3 live shows ever. Blew my mind hard.

Gawd, Acme blew chunks. I went from JSBX superfan in high school to "meh" pretty much overnight when that record came out. I used to run two different JSBX websites in the 90s. Matador used to send me all kinds of free promo shit. I should dig it out and sell it on ebay. I haven't listened to anything since then (ok, that's a lie, I bought the Acme remix album which was somehow worse), but I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

Fucking great live, I think i saw them 3 or 4 times.

I saw them just after 'orange' -- they were unbelievably great, but that was nearly 20 yrs ago. I bet they can still deliver, provided Simmons doesn't have a cocaine-induced coronary.

He had really nice metallic silver leather pants when they played the Mainroom on the Acme tour. I think Alex Chilton played beforehand. Anybody remember who opened? I'm blanking.

He came to my house once and I fixed his amp. We played with him at the Knitting Factory maybe like '93? Nice fellow.

not into them as much as when I was in high school, but I have to disagree an say ACME an the remix album are great. not as great as now I got worry, extra width and orange perhaps but still great.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked Acme, I liked it a lot. But I really disliked Plastic Fang. It never grabbed me. Orange was the pinnacle.

6/25/12 6:42 PM
Everything up to and including Now I Got Worry is pretty good in my book. Love the self-titled and Crypt Style, probably because they're the most PG sounding. Once they smoothed up they got with a sick tight clique and went all out. Mo' Width is another favorite of mine.

True story: I got into JSBX because I was a huge Beck freak right around the time Mellow Gold came out. I picked up the Orange remix record for the Beck appearance and ended up becoming obsessed with JSBX instead. Upgrayyyyyde.

Plastic Fang sucked. Now I Got Worry grew on me.

I still love Pussy Galore. Can't be helped.

I'm with Bicorn. As an album, Acme was a bit of a miss/mess. Live, that stuff may actually sound pretty cool. Mixing and DJing in person is usually a bit more engaging than sitting still and listening. Unless you're listening to Mix Master Mike. But this show will be all that and more (?).

Thank you.

Got the new album and I'm not completely sure how I feel about it yet. It might be the best thing they've done since Now I Got Worry but I think I want it to sound more raw or something.

At any rate I'm sure this shits gonna sound great live. I got my tickets.

Jon nearly took my hearing from me by leaving his theremin on LOUD for like 5 minutes when they walked off the stage before the encore when I saw them at 1st avenue last time.

Hey, so, easy on the old guy comments BUT:

Doors are at 7:30. Show starts at 8:30. Bill shows only two bands. Can anyone confirm if this is really the deal? Like, would I conceivably get home by midnight? This guy has to be teaching the next day at 7:30am and gets up at 5:45am. So this is legit.

On the fence between this and PiL...
Dervish
10/21/12 5:19 PM
I thought about that too Dustroyer, but the PiL lineup I would want to see, I will never see (Levine, Wobble).

I'd rather see the static lineup of the Blues Explosion than John Lydon and the (presumably good) musicians he's chosen to surround himself with these days.

Now Mark E. Smith on the other hand... I would see him if he had a chorus of singing nuns backing him.
Dustroyer
10/21/12 7:12 PM
Cuz even if it's MES and your granny on bongos a chorus of nuns, it's still The Fall.

No way would i ever miss it. they play stuff from all the early albums up through the new one. All amazing. brilliant musicians. lu Edmonds especially is a monster on many instruments. it will be gig of the year!

he looked old onstage, but he was hanging out in the bar afterward and he didn't look as old. which was weird. he looked handsome up close. i woulda hit it. there were a lot of fossils in the crowd and one metalhead guy who was thrashing around a tad excessively. overall, a bitchin' show.

This was just such a good show.

I liked the new stuff live but the highlights for me were when they:

1. Played "Dang" not too far into the set. That was a surprise to me. It also really got the audience into it.

2. Played "Train #3"! Holy fuck, I was blown away that they played that song as it's not very well known and it's one of my favorite "deep cuts" of theirs. Never thought I would hear it live in person and was super pumped when they played it which is more than I can say for the rest of the audience cuz I don't think many other people knew that song judging by the reaction.

3. Played a Link Wray cover (Jack The Ripper) and did it VERY faithfully. They did an Excellent job.

4. When Judah did the "G-funk synth line from the end of Greyhound" on his telecaster which sounded pretty awesome. I've heard them play "Greyhound" on a number of live recordings and seen them play it live twice, and every arrangement has been different. In my mind, this goes to show how much these guys put into there live shows and how much fun they have. I'm not sure I can think of a 3 piece band that has surpassed these guys in terms of how tight of a unit they are live.

5. Blood Shot Bill was awesome! Glad I was introduced to him and his music at this show. Really good showmanship and really cool singing voice. He would do this thing with his voice that would remind me of Old Time Relijun but the musical context was different (rockabilly).

I wish I could of had my cake etc. etc. and seen PiL as well as JSBX. But since I couldn't, I'm still happy I went to JSBX and have no regrets. Best show I've seen in a while.
