my roommates craped out recently.
we've been listening to tapes on my Youthtronics boombox. Only the left speaker works. the beverly Hills Cop soundtrack cassette can only be played so much in a day.
so, if you know of or have an extra receiver, PM me
I thought this was going to be like a craigslist casual encounter.
i thought it was going to be about football
i haven't had luck on craigslist thus far
the point of the thread was to discuss the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack
does anybody have the Ghostbusters soundtrack?
i want it
No, but I have like 8 footloose sountracks.
i don't have a receiver but unique thrift stores always have a billion of them
you should play them all at the same time
at different points of the tape
at six AM in the morning
yeah, i haven't been to a Unique in awhile
I live across the street from a Sally Army, but they never have them
I would prefer 6 AM at night.
i'm sorry
excuse my redundancy
please forgive me
sorry again

I've got a pile of 'em in my basement. I'll see if I can find one that works, and let you know what it is and how much. It will be inexpensive. They are all that late '70s Brushed Aluminum and Wood Grain variety.
Like the thread would suggest, I'm in need of a receiver. Does anyone have any suggestions, or anything they would be willing to part with? I'm a bit hesitant to go the Craigslist route. I'm just afraid of dropping $200 on a receiver only to have it stop working two months down the line. Help a guy out.
Yours in Chris,

I thought this was going to be like a craigslist casual encounter.
4.5 years later and this thread title still reminds me of buttsecks.

Try giving Vintage Music on 38th a visit. For $200 you might find something quality there. I'm pretty sure they inspect, clean and make necessary repairs on every component they receive... plus, dude knows his shit.
wait, JOiNt is the same as My Main Man?
JOiNt just IS, dawg.

I just bought a copy of the "D.C. Cab" soundtrack.
"O.D. Receiver" was the last song I listened to

Thanks for the hot tips, SeƱor Shears and nairloom.

I think I have a VHS copy of D.C. Cab kicking around somewhere.
What a terrible movie.

Who's holding?
I'm gonna need a receiver when the ex moves the rest of her stuff out. Preferably something with a phono preamp and has a decent amount of juice to power two Dahlquist DQ-10s (200w or over).
I'd be willing to work something out in cash/beer/deesh. Doesn't have to be amazing, just mostly functional.
I'd like to hear those DQ-10s.
I thought this thread was going to be about the Vikings
DQ-10s? Time for Chillabration?
Classy, the Vikes signed one today. Problem solved.
i still need one too!
I have an average Sony in fine condition I'd part with for $10 or whatever.
Anybody got a recommendation on a receiver model with HDMI and also phono capability in the $400 range?
This one is tempting, but I'm not fond of buying used electronics from strangers.
What are some good local stores for this kinda thing. Best Buy sucks noodles when it comes to phono inputs.
of course, cheaper is also acceptable. That's more the high end of what I can do.
teddy i might take u up on that!
Anybody use a preamp for hooking up their phono inputs? Where can I buy one?
legs?
I have a phono preamp. $15.
I also have a nice mid-'90s Sony receiver with a phono channel for $30.
I'm good now, cuz I have this motherfucker:
IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW
Makes those Dahlquists THUMP in a way the Sony I was using before never could.
Those prices above are meant to indicate that I am willing to sell said items.
whoah, bicorn.
where'd you find that jawn?
YITH, I'm still in the research stage trying to decide what's best at this point (hdmi receiver + preamp, or something with both which is way more spendy). I may take you up on the offer, but first I'd like to check out some stores that sell preamps. Not sure where to start.
Snagged it from a friend on the cheap. He upgraded to an old quad system (I don't think he owns any quad records yet, but he's excited for it) and sold me this one. VERY well taken care of.
Shaitan, you can demo stuff at Needle Doctor, Audio Perfection, Stereoland, or Hi-Fi Sound. Those are the four places I know of. Most of their stuff will be out of the price range you stated, but you might be able to find some things on the cheap.
Otherwise, you're kinda stuck with Best Buy or thrift stores. I'd look at the Harmon-Kardon A/V receivers. Some of them don't have phono amps, though, so you'd have to get an outboard one. Buy the YITH's, and you're set.
needle doctor currently has really nice Cambridge Audio receivers at a deep discount. only $299. really contemplating pulling the trigger.
i love my cambridge! (though be warned i believe you have to purchase an aftermarket phono stage with their entry level stuff)
mags is right.
however, the matching Cambridge phono preamp is hella nice and under $150.
mags, what kinda preamp do you run?
i got the cambridge one i'm assuming you're talking about...can't remember the number but that price sounds about right, been very happy with it
also, this is more superficial but their shit looks really awesome and silver and shit, which is kinda nice as well
i'd be lying if i said the aethetics weren't a big selling point for me.
yeah i mean, by all account it's very quality stuff, but i do kinda like that even their entry level stuff *looks* fancy, compared to say, a comparable NAD, which NAD isn't much on design aesthetics in general
jah, NAD stuff looks like my boring early 90s black sony box i have now.
my reciever is nowhere near the quality of my speakers or turntable, so i really need to step up on upgrading them thangz.
no diss to NAD, classy has NAD stuff and it's really good sounding but yeah that Cambridge for $299 is kinda of off the charts good deal, since everything i've read says they are a comparable bargain at full price
DO IT PP
i really want a new guitar amp, too. DECISIONS.
Yeah NAD is totally garabge for listening to like Belly or Also Ran Hardcore Band
lol
classy i wasn't even dissing!
Ohai thread! My NAD gear won't power up properly. Sould I bring it to Hi-Fi Sound????
I have an "NAD 4 LIFE" teardrop tattoo I will cut you
audiophile beef is harsh, someone is going to end up strangled to death with a $200 speaker wire
Corngird-
CD player? Mine is finicky as hell, it has be on stand-by mode all the time otherwise it won't turn on right. I don't usually have problems with it but when I do it is annoying. I've never bothered to have it looked at, I mostly just mess with it (turn it on/off, let it warm up, etc) until it works.
i gotta hear all the subtle nuances of a pawn shop guitar recorded shittily on a basement computer.
I thought this would be another Vikings thread HEYO!
Classy-
No, the amp itself won't powwer up. I have a separate power amp plate that powers the receiver, etc. No obvious fuses.
I got nothing
So I'm the only person who thought this thread was about gay sex?
no someone else said it was
HEY! I thought this thread was about buttsex and football.
And giving. The joy of giving.

I must have CTRL F'ed the wrong words.

i have one of their stereo receivers from a few years ago and i think its pretty awesome. 2 channels+phono preamp here is updated version of one i have
Oh yeah, my Dad got one of those ^ about a year ago. It's pretty awesome, and pretty sci-fi.
So any opinions on Hi-Fi Sound for repairs, or any other repair recommendations?
I took a record player in there to be repaired, the guy called mr back and explained everything that was wrong with it and how much it would cost. He then said, listen this player isn't very good to begin with and you could find something better used for less than it would cost to fix...which is pretty cool in my book
He also didn't charge me for looking at it
Sounds promising. Thnx.
